About the Event

This event aims to raise awareness of the value and benefit of Supported Internships to young people with SEND across the UK. It will comprise of high profile keynote speakers along with masterclasses led by national businesses, local authorities and education providers with a track record of success.

Supported internships are low cost high impact programmes that are changing lives for people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. Nationally only 5.8% of those with a learning disability achieve paid employment. Successful supported internships can achieve a 60% + employment rate.

Our first conference will equip delegates with the knowledge and tools to set up and run supported internships by hearing from some of the best schemes in the country.

Supported internships help Local Authorities to:

· Develop employability skills in local residents with SEND

· Change lives and help people take an active role in society

· Improve employment outcomes for local residents with SEND.

Masterclass streams will focus on schemes from an employer, local authority and education provider perspective.

Includes masterclasses by exemplar providers such as:

· Liverpool City Region

· Warwickshire County Council

· National Grid

· Yorkshire Water

· Manchester College

· Lighthouse Futures Trust

· Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust

Delegates will receive access to an online hub full of templates, tools and information to help them to achieve success in their local area.

Every delegate will have access to ‘The Hub’ prior to the conference so that they come away from the conference with a tool kit of resources and plans to start or improve the employment opportunities available to young people with SEND in their local areas.
